Shildon are top of the ENL First Division after they beat Penrith 3-0 at Dean Street tonight.

Penrith keeper Stuart Forester kept his team in the game, but he had no chance midway through the second half when a long ball opened up the defence for Billy Greulich-Smith to put his side in front. Jamie Harwood headed the second from a left-wing free kick, and Matty Waters scored the third from the spot after Greulich-Smith was brought down.

West Auckland stayed in touch with the leaders when they beat Newcastle Benfield 1-0.

Benfield had a chance to take the lead on 37 minutes following a foul by West’s Dan Parker in the area, but Stephen Slaughter’s penalty struck the crossbar.

West took the lead on 47 minutes when a cross by Lewis Dodds evaded everybody in the area, and bounced into the net off the post.

Newton Aycliffe drew 1-1 with bottom club Whickham at Moore Lane.

Whickham took the lead with their first league goal of the season, a header by Andrew Brown from a right wing cross midway through the second half, but Aycliffe equalised when Paul Weldon scored direct from a corner.

Stockton had a good 3-0 away win at Sunderland RCA. Stockton took the lead through Sonni Coleman from a Fred Woodhouse assist, and early in the second half Mikey Roberts picked up a through ball and rounded the RCA keeper. Peter Bulmer finished the game off.

Consett still have a 100 per cent record after four games following their 3-2 away win at Ashington, while North Shields came from 3-1 down in the second half to draw 3-3 at Hebburn.

In the second division, Tow Law lost 3-0 at home to Jarrow, who scored all their goals in the second half through James Wilson, Jonathan Hirst and Jon Higham.

In the EvoStik League East, Marske United lost 2-1 at Frickley. Marske took the lead after 4 minutes with a Craig Gott free kick that just crept over the line, but Frickley levelled just on half time with a penalty by Gavin Allott.

However, Marske had Chay Liddle dismissed for a foul after ten minutes of the second half, and Frickley won it with a header by Jack Burton.

Morpeth won for the first time, beating Brighouse 2-1, while in the premier division, South Shields went down 4-1 at Farsley Celtic for whom former Darlington striker Nathan Cartman scored one of the goals.
