Northallerton D.M.C. Twin Shock Championship trial, Bilsdale, Sat/Sun

FIFTY-THREE riders out to battled for top honours at Northallerton club's trial held at Timberholme Farm, Bilsdale on Sunday, which included a round of the Club`s Twin Shock Championship.

A four lap, ten section course set across three farmsteads tested all classes. Jonathan Frost edged the Intermediate win from Shane Monkman by four marks after Monkman hit trouble with a double figure score on the long rocky gully where Keith Ellis observed.

Class A riders Paul Pulman and Steve Cornforth lost marks on the awkward jumble of rocks on the third, as did Clubman B winner Paul McIntyre, plus second and third place men Gary Bloodworth and Pete Clements.

Clements, returning to trials after a long lay off - he was pretty sound in the eighties - is now beginning to shake the rust off and move up the results.

Max Clift, a great grass track man back in the day, found it a little harder going, as did Thirsk stalwart Dave Almack.

Topping the Class A entry Darren Johnson was determined as ever, he gave nothing away, producing a clean last lap.

Good efforts here also from Mark Jewell and Steve Ward on two marks lost.

Paul Nelson took up the challenge to move up to Class A and was rewarded with runner up berth keeping him ahead of Pulman, Dave Wardell and Jewell, as Wardell put a fantastic effort in on the adverse camber and rock step of the last section, the only rider to stay clean.

Twin shocks were well supported, Andy Keel easing the Fantic ahead of Mick Grant on the little Bantam, Keel only having any real problems on the last hazard.

Yeadon-Guiseley M.C. Trial, Brimham Rocks, Saturday

MONTESA rider Louis Haley saved the day at Brimham Rocks on Saturday afternoon when he won the adult class of the Yeadon-Guiseley club's trial from eleven year old East Keswick youngster Harry Hemingway by a single penalty.

Harry's younger brother George shared the top spot with Charlie Crossland and former 2015 national Class D champion Lewis Hurdsman.

Matilda Arbon ran off with the Easy course class where the best adult finished a distant seventh.

The trial ran three laps through eight very varied sections.

The recent rainfalls left a legacy of slippery grass while down in the south ravine the conditions were muddy and the rock climbs became slippery after to laps.

ON Wednesday and Thursday under torrential rain licensed instructors Ian Austermuhle, James Stones, Jack Stones, Matt Maynard, John Sunter, Richard Sadler, Rob Waite and Guy Kendrew tutored sixty four youngsters from the ages of four to twelve years of age.

Each of the eight ages and skill groups were trained by each instructor thus inputting different suggestions and techniques.

The training ended with a presentation of a certificate of competence and an action photograph provided by the Club from Hollie Braithwaite and her assistant.

It was without doubt the wettest ever training session on record.
