A FAIRLY quiet weekend saw the black and white vest up early for a day-long event around the North Yorkshire Moors.

The sun (and the wind) was out for this year’s Cleveland Way Relay, which in a result that came as a shock to many, saw Quakers finish neither last nor second last! Those running across the sixteen-leg, 109 mile route from Filey to Helmsley were Andrew Vernon, Paul Ryan, Ty Hankinson, Ian Hammond, Anthony Corbett, Rob Dent, April Corbett, Mel Newton, Phil Rutter, Gill Colling, Ben Lester, Anna Hardy, Nicola Wells, Jamie Norman (running twice), Michelle Boshier, Fiona Dixon, Fred Tennant, Sarah Watson, Rebecca Bowes, Dave Jones, Michelle Dale, Gary Read, Katherine Hackett, Stephen Ash, Lindsey Lester (and husband Ben), Grainne Duffy, Mark Colling, Lee Morris, Nick Watson (who organised the teams), Emily Beaumont (running twice) and Daz Wood.

Down in Hull, James Simpson was the sole Quaker at the Humber Bridge half marathon. On a route which included an out and back section along the suspension bridge itself, he finished in 2:13:42.

At the Staveley Stampede 10K race held near Knaresborough, Diane Vaughan and Richard Hughes completed the countryside route there in 47:41 and 52:07 respectively.

Up on the Lambton Estate, near Chester-le-Street, Marc Ellis finished the 10K race held around the grounds in 40:55 along with Tracey Plaskitt in 58:55.

Midweek had seen an eventful Whorlton Run fell race near Swainby. On a 6.2 mile route which took in 1400 feet of climb, Michael Joyeux came home in second place in 44:20. He was followed in by Marc Ellis (51:01 and third in his age category), Billy Harris (56:27 and first in his age category), Phil Rutter (56:43, despite a fairly nasty fall en route), Louise Trainor (57:15 and second in her age category), Sarah Watson (1:07:25, despite getting lost along the way, making her way back to the village, only to then cross the finish line from the wrong direction!), Malcolm Hewitson (1:08:02), Rebecca Bowes (1:10:24 and third in her age category), Gill Colling (1:27:03 and second in her age category) and Wendy Noble & Sue New who came in together in 1:28:34.

The same night had also seen the third race in the Summer 5K trail series, this time over at Lordstones, near Carlton Bank. Gary read completed the off-road route in 21:33 along with Dan Rowlands (22:14), Tom Chapman (24:39), Richard Payne (27:43), Jeff Marriott (30:37), Claire Hewitt (37:54), Sally Watson (37:56), Sharon Carr (40:17) and Lisa Alderson (41:06).

In the Saturday morning parkruns, Dave Jones finished at South Park in 18:02 followed by James Atkinson (19:01), Rob Dent (19:01), Luke Minall (20:03), Adrian Cottam (20:04), Fred Tennant (21:23), Rebecca Howard (21:48), David Ptak (23:12), Stuart Masterman (24:31), Shaune Eland (24:31), Mark Trowles (25:34), Julie Bell (26:42), Michael Johnston (27:17), Gemma Hammond (27:41), Chris Land (28:20), Diane Lockhart (28:27), Lee Morris (28:28), Helen Clarke (29:20), Charlie Johnson (31:03), Paul Ryan (32:31), Isabelle Bell (32:32), Sarah Bayles (33:17), Emma Joyeux (34:02), Phill Johnston (34:05), Dawn Johnston (34:05) and Lucy Bendle (37:41).

At Catterick, Kyle Cook was first across the line there in 16:55 along with Gary Read (19:21), Dan Rowlands (20:59), Andrew Lambe (21:06), Steven Major (21:27), Darren Whiting (22:26), Jamie Pratt (24:32), Lewis Boshier (25:43), Michelle Boshier (25:44), Christopher Johnson (26:07), Christopher Parsons (26:41), Abbie Hull (27:24), Angela Clement (28:19), Janette Croft (28:20), Fiona Dixon (32:35), Emily Beaumont (32:40), Karen Dove (32:51) and Sally Watson (34:14). At Sedgefield, Richard Payne finished in 26:28 along with Mark Blewitt (29:55) and Caroline Ridley-Marriott (39:25), Ty Hankinson ran at Tees Barrage in 23:30 while Nicola Wells did the run at Northallerton in 21:46. At Fountains Abbey, Adrian Colbourne finished in 21:07, Anthony Corbett ran at Nostell priory near Wakefield in 26:16 and Lisa Jenkins did the run at Keswick in 29:08. At the Millom run near Barrow-in-Furness, Olly Moore and Gemma Marshall finished together in 34:10, while down in the capital, Darryn Wood did the run at Bushy Park in 28:53.

Flying the Quaker flag overseas were Brian and Sandra Martin who completed the run in Krakow, Poland in 19:43 and 26:16 respectively.
