GAME REPORT Sunday 11th June 2017

Gateshead Senators Vs Carlisle Sentinels

It had been a long wait since the Senators last game against Walney Terriers back on the 21st May. But on Sunday The Senators certainly showed no signs of ring rust putting on a dominant display against Carlisle.

It is worth noting that Carlisle made the trip to the North East with a small squad, most of which played both offence and defence throughout the day.

It is a great credit to the players and coaches that their heads didn’t drop and they gave it their all for all four quarters.

From the opening kick-off Gateshead looked to go out and put in a professional and dominant display.

The Defence had a fantastic day shutting down Carlisle on their first possession, this was a sign of things to come with standout displays from Andrew Donoghue (D-Line) who was a force to be reckoned with in the trenches, Matthew Goddard, Dan Coultish and Sean Wilcock (Linebackers) were all over the pitch all game making big plays on every drive.

Kris Barr and Glen Fyvie worked tirelessly in The Gateshead secondary to ensure a No-Fly Zone was in place all the game. This unit has got better every game and is a force to be reckoned with.

The Senators offence was a well drilled machine, scoring on their opening drive and consistently marching down the field.

Chris Scrace’s Offensive Line (benefiting from a return to full fitness of Left Guard Rob Johnson) created some fantastic running lanes all day for Gateshead’s Talented Backfield. Captain Gav Barr, Darren Mould and breakout star Stephen Taylor all going in for multiple scores.

Quarterback’s Robb Watts and Harry Clark didn’t miss out either adding scores to improve their tallies for the season.

With huge performances from so many key players the MVP award was a tough one for this game.

Gav Barr, Paul Dewhurst and Glen Fyvie would all have been easy choices, but on the day the all round play of Darren Mould seen him walk away with the game MVP.

The Senators now have a quick turnaround and host The Knottingly Raiders at 2pm (Monkton Stadium) This Sunday in what will be an exciting game as it will be the first trip the Raiders have made up to the North East.

Hopefully Gateshead can keep their winning streak going and make it a perfect 6 wins from 6 games.
