ANOTHER PACKED week saw some Quakers running from one day into the next, more personal bests and club records, as well as one runner joining an exclusive club.

The latest of the Hardmoors events, and the longest two of them, took place over the weekend. A one off special event, the Hardmoors 200 mile race, was held to mark the tenth anniversary of the 110 mile race. On a route which started near Hull and took in the 79 mile long Yorkshire Wolds Way before heading onto the Cleveland Way, the quintet of Roy MacDougall, Anthony Corbett, April Corbett, Mark Colling and Wendy Colling completed the event as a relay team, coming home in exactly 40 hours. A special mention also goes to Jamie Norman who made it as far as Filey before unfortunately being timed out. In the 110 mile race, which took in the entire length of the Cleveland Way from Filey to Helmsley, Michelle Boshier and Emily Beaumont completed the route together in 34 hours 57 minutes. In doing so, Emily then also became just the 19th member (and fifth Quaker overall) to join the prestigious 1000 Mile Club.

The Bank Holiday Monday had seen Phil Rutter and Gill Colling heading over to Northern Ireland for the Belfast marathon, the former breaking a fifteen year old personal best to finish in 3:41:57, and the latter completing her first race over the distance in 4:47:59.

The extra day off also saw a few slightly worse-for-wear Quakers at the Tees Barrage 10K. First home around the windy riverside course was David Matthew in 42:42 followed by Brian McLaren (44:10), Ed Griffiths (44:41), Adrian Cottam (44:59), Dan Rowlands (46:40), Jamie Pratt (51:32), Jessica Campbell (53:54), Nigel Eddy (54:16), Juliette McLaren (54:16), Mark Trowles (58:49), Alison Hardwick (1:03:19), Gary Read (1:04:01), Margaret Hunter (1:07:11),  Nicola Arkley (1:13:54) and Linda Harrington (1:20:56).

The second meeting of the NYSD took place over at Middlesbrough which saw six more club records being set on the night. In the 100m, Lindsey Lester covered the sprint distance in 14.8s (PB and breaking her club record) along with Gary Read (15.3s), Paul Roberts (15.4s), Fred Tennant (16.1s) and Nicola Arkley (20.4s). In the 800m Gary Read broke his own club record finishing in 2.26 with Fred Tennant in 2.51 (CR) and Louise Trainor (2.52). Out on the field in the long jump, Lindsey Lester landed 3.78m ahead of Gary Read (3.71m), Paul Roberts (3.68m) and Nicola Arkley (2.42m, CR), while in the discus, Paul Roberts threw 16.35m with Gary Read (14.36m, CR) and Nicola Arkley (14.18, CR)

A few other runners also headed off road at the weekend too. Over in the Lake District, Rebecca Howard took part in the Kentmere trail race at Staveley, finishing the 17K route around the southern Lakeland Fells in 1:40:44.

Taking part in a race of a different kind were Mike Brown and Caroline Moses, who competed in the Wings for Life World Run at Cambridge, along with over 86,000 others running simultaneously around the world. In a race without a set distance, the runners were chased by a tail car which set off half an hour after the runners, increasing at varying speeds until the overtaken participants were eliminated one by one. Although both were caught, they ran 30.4K and 17.1K respectively before being eliminated.
