ANOTHER BUSY week saw both league and championship races, as well as plenty of personal bests and club records being broken.

The latest 10K league race took place down at Kirkbymoorside. First home for the club over the fairly undulating course was Paul Dalton in 38:09 followed by Marc Ellis (38:25), Dave Jones (38:46), Michael Thompson (41:21), Rob Dent (41:41), David Todd (42:09), Louise Trainor (43:15 and first in her age category), Mike Brown (43:20), Steven Major (44:43), Adrian Gooding (44:48), Andrew Vernon (45:48), Ty Hankinson (46:06), Rob Gillham (47:25), Graham Park (49:09), Jamie Pratt (51:23), David Ledgerwood (52:09, PB), Mark Colling (52:47), Wendy Colling (53:06), Darren Alderson (54:04), Caroline Moses (55:56), Lee Morris (1:00:36), Jo Dickinson (1:01:47), Barbra Barker (1:01:47), Lisa Jenkins (1:03:09), Grainne Duffy (1:10:24) and Lisa Alderson (1:11:42).

Midweek had seen the latest club championship race, the Spring Coast Road 5K over at Redcar, which saw two Quakers finishing in the top ten, as well as several personal bests and club records being set thanks to the flat course. Alex Kiel finished in second place overall in 15:43 (PB) with Michael Joyeux in seventh place in 16:16. Next to finish were Darren Wright (18:52, PB), Chris Minto (19:32, PB), Louise Trainor (19:57, finishing first in her age category and also breaking her own club record), Dan Rowlands (20:07), Steven Major (20:26), Dale Chapman (20:44), Brian McLaren (21:25), Phil Clarke (21:45 and breaking the club record for his age category), Diane Vaughan (22:38), Rob Gillham (23:02), Jamie Pratt (23:35), Julie Whinn (24:48, PB, finishing second in her age category and breaking her own club record), Juliette McLaren (25:08), Clare Stradling (25:12), Paul Dalton (25:12), Jessica Campbell (25:31), Michelle Scruby (25:51, PB), Lee Morris (27:33), James Simpson (27:37), Barbra Barker (28:36), Phillip Johnston (28:35), Dawn Johnston (29:15), Lisa Jenkins (29:26) and Kim Hall (31:30).

Also taking place on the same night were the Neptune Relays over at Hardwick Park, Sedgefield, which saw teams of four runners each completing a 1.7 mile leg around the grounds. The quartet of Sue New, Graham Park, Ian Readman & Rebecca Howard finished in 45:40 followed by Ed Griffiths, Helen Whiting, Sarah Watson & Dave Brown (49:26), Rob Dent, Simon Moore, Sally Watson & Lindsey Lester (51:28), Lewis Boshier, Paul Roberts, Sue Woodcock & Nicola Arkley (51:59), Nicola Wells, Liz Kennedy, Clare Hewitt & Neal Harper (52:11), Michelle Boshier, Jeff Marriott, Dave Jones & Linda Harrington (56:17) and Lyn Hatch, Nicola Herraghty (running twice) & Lisa Alderson (1:00:28).

Plenty of runners headed off road at the weekend as well. Over at Reeth, in the 20K race, Michael Joyeux narrowly missed out on the win in a thrilling finish to the race, coming in just five seconds behind the winner in 1:23:19. Billy Harris completed the course in 1:53:51 (and second in his age category) along with April Corbett & Anthony Corbett in 2:21:10, Michelle Boshier & Anna Hardy in 2:33:43 and Danny Gordon in 2:46:57 (and first in his age category). Meanwhile in the 10K race Ewan Henderson came home in sixth place overall, finishing in 55:54.

In the Yorkshire Dales, Annette Clarke and Charlie Bogg were out on the moors taking part in The Fellsman, completing the 60 mile route from Ingleton to Thresfield, which took in over 11,000 feet of climb, in 21 hours 5 minutes.

Two headed over to the Lake District for the Keswick half marathon. On a route that took in a circuit around Derwentwater, Sarah Bayles finished the 13.1 mile route in 2:36:16, with Emily Beaumont in 2:45:36.

North of the border, Emma Bland took part in the Highland Fling, a 53 mile race starting on the outskirts of Glasgow. On a route which went through Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, she completed the distance in 14:18:11.

The previous week had also seen the 40th anniversary running of the Guisborough Moors fell race. Over a 12.4 mile route which took in 2700 feet of climb, included going up Roseberry Topping, Andrew Vernon finished in 2:07:49 along with Andrew Lambe in 2:12:53.

In the Saturday morning parkruns, South Park saw the annual Quakers takeover, as well as the attendance record being broken. At Sedgefield, Dave Thompson finished in 23:56 along with Richard Payne (26:07), Jeff Marriott (27:48) and Mark Blewitt (28:35), while at Sunderland, Mike Brown and Caroline Moses ran there in 22:37 and 31:10 respectively. Anthony Corbett did the run at Gateshead in 26:27, Emily Beaumont ran at Tees Barrage in 34:29, Adrian Colbourne finished the run at Durham in 20:58 while Darryn Wood completed the run at Woodhouse Moor in Leeds in 36:23.
