CHARITY fundraisers Stuart Lowther and Barry Watson used their trail riding knowledge on May Day Monday by staging a 100-mile trail ride for 19 enthusiasts in aid of the Captain Tom Foundation.

Together with run leaders Simon Brown and Chris Roberts, the route covered Bishopdale, Coverdale, Wensleydale and Swaledale.

Most importantly, the starting point was the Stoneygate Farm Shop and Cafe at Ravensworth, where Bernadette and Malcolm Tennant served a hearty bikers' breakfast. Among the riders were Askrigg four-time Scott Trial winner Phillip Alderson, who rode his mighty 450cc KTM machine, and Melmerby motor engineer Stuart Blythe, who joined Alderson in riding a 450cc Honda.

The organisers ensured that the West Burton Tea Rooms were warned in advance of the two wheeled invasion, heading there for lunch. With the bikers came the rain, and the bus stop shelter did afford some cover for the by then soaked riders. The result was £440 for the Captain Tom Foundation.
