EIGHT hardy souls turned out for the annual Cleveland Wheelers Cycling Club Christmas Day ten-mile time trial at Newton-under-Roseberry.

This year, with Covid-19 restrictions, it was a virtual race with times certified by Strava. Conditions were less than ideal with frosty roads, making the going quite tricky. Harry Tanfield scored his last major victory of the year with a time of 22:44, well outside his own course record with Euan and Kate Sanderson completing the top three with times of 25:22 and 28:23.

The other times recorded were Marcus Smith 29:16, Toby Tanfield 30:08, Eric Haskins 31:57, Charlie Tanfield 33:06 and Shaun Joughin 33:34.

This was a complete change of scene for Harry Tanfield, 26, from Great Ayton, who this year competed in the national Tour of Spain, La Vuelta 2020, as part of the French racing team, AG2R La Mondiale. He has been a member of Cleveland Wheelers for many years.
