THE end of the second lockdown meant games could resume for teams playing in the Wensleydale Creamery League.

Among the teams not showing any rustiness follow the break were Unicorn, who overcame Hawes 4-2.

Hawes scored first when Dan Richardson lobbed the keeper from 20 yards after a mix up in the Richmond team's defence.

Harrison Stott put the Dales team 2-0 up with his first goal for the club after clever work by Tom Wallis.

However, Unicorn were soon level. Liam Reeves got up after being felled to score a penalty. Clark Gunn then equalised shortly afterwards following a mistake by the Hawes 'keeper.

Shayne Ketley put Unicorn ahead just before the break with a good finish from Reeves securing the points midway through the second half.

Richmond Town Reserves also came out firing on all cylinders, with a comprehensive 8-1 win over Reeth in a game played at the new 3G pitch at Richmond School – a pitch known as the Clark Arena in tribute to the former deputy head, Dave Clark, who died earlier this year.

Josh Woof opened the scoring, before a James Kelly hat-trick, two from Uchenna Anyadiegwu, and one each from Nathan Simpson and Edward Lewington secured the points.

Reeth's goal was scored by Ross Barnett.

In the lower Wensleydale derby, Spennithorne beat rivals Leyburn 2-0 through goals from Paul Harmsworth and Kalem Stanger.

Several teams also had North Riding Cup fixtures on Saturday.

Despite missing key players due to tier issues, Catterick Garrison dominated the first half in their game at home against Thirsk Falcons.

Stephen Fleming put the Garrison ahead from the penalty spot after a handball.

In the second half, Fleming got his second when he pressured the Thirsk keeper, making him swing and miss a clearance.

As the ball dribbled on Fleming continued his run and smashed the ball into an empty net.

Thirsk got a well-worked goal to reduce the deficit.

They then levelled shortly afterwards despite the home side claiming the ball had been out of play on the by-line by a distance.

Catterick skipper Andrew Constantine voiced his opinion too strongly and the referee sent him for ten minutes in the sin bin.

The home side was further incensed when the ref disallowed a Jez Mortimer goal after the keeper had spilled the ball.

The referee claimed the keeper had the ball under control when Mortimer slid in to find the corner, much to Catterick's annoyance.

Catterick then missed a number of chances before suffering a sucker punch when a deflected shot went passed a largely unemployed Alfie Martin in the Garrison goal.

Richmond Mavericks did make it through to the next round however with a comfortable 11-1 win over Goal Sports in another game played at the Clark Arena.

Andrew Pritchard got five, with Richie Bastow and Scott Fenney got two each.
