IT has been an unbelievable few days for Richmond and Zetland Harriers life member Marc Scott.

Saturday, September 5 saw Marc compete in the Muller British Athletics Championship in Manchester in the 5,000m. Marc went on to take the win and become the British champion with a five second lead in 13:32:98 – this stellar performance was a stadium record and the fastest time at the British championships this century.

A week later, on Saturday, September 12, Marc competed in the P&O ferries Antrim Coast Half Marathon which saw one of the finest international fields ever assembled on the shores of Northern Ireland.

This was Marc's debut half marathon and he put in an eye-catching performance to finish in second place, just 12 seconds behind Sir Mo Farah in a time of 60:39. This places him number three on the UK all-time rankings.

Also running in the half marathon was Marc's brother Rob, who finished 29th in a fantastic time of 70:33.

A trio of red vests took part in the North East Project graded 5k on September 5 at Albert Park. The course with great PB potential saw strong running from the Harriers with Carl Jones finishing third in 15:40 (PB), Steve Middleton 17:03 and Ken Harker sixth in 18:13.

The following day saw Ken Harker don the red vest again to take part in the 1,500m at the North East Open meeting in Morpeth, running a fantastic time of 4:57. An excellent run from junior athlete Joseph Reeve in the 1,500m saw him finish third in 4:29 (PB). On the field Dan Upton had a successful time and threw a season's best in the shot put of 12.84m and 37.75m in the discus.

Away from the roads and track, Kimberley Reeve took part in the Burnsall trail half marathon. Kim was happy to be back out racing on the hills on a beautiful course with views of the river and the Yorkshire Dales, with about 500m of ascent. Kim had a splendid run and finished the tough race in 2hr 12mins, a time which placed her third female overall.
