TWENTY SIX motor cycle trail riding enthusiasts enjoyed Dales riding legally through Swaledale, Bishopdale then Coverdale, finishing at the newly opened West Burton Tea Rooms where riders and officials enjoyed a luncheon.
The total mileage was 100. The areas visited included areas where the Gerald Simpson sidecar trial took place in the 1970s. All the routes carried the permission of landowners, farmers and gamekeepers. The entire route was set out by clerks of course Simon Brown, Malcolm Tennant and Stuart Lowther. Barry Watson, former sidecar trials champion, visited and gained permission from all relevant parties.
The course started in Richmond. Under Covid-19 restrictions, the exact route was changed slightly from last year. The riders started in three separate groups. The acres of the Lambert farm at Braidley tested the field. The riders in the Simon Brown and Malcolm Tennant group were tested, while those in Stuart Lowther’s guidance had an easier passage. Barry Watson led the third group who were tired after what was a long testing day.
The event yielded £800 plus £1 a head donation from West Burton Tea Rooms. The organisers intend to donate the proceeds to the NHS. The run was the second charity event organised by L and W Promotions.
