Darlington Building Society NYSD ECB – Premier League

A very rare event happened at Cricket Lane, where Billingham Synthonia travelled to Normanby Hall, with the game ending in a thrilling tie, as both teams were all out for 110. The home side asked Synners to bat first and one stage they were 17-4, but opener Ben Brown top scored with 31, as Nathan Bell took an excellent 5-18 and Chris Witherley chipped in with 3-28.

Normanby then made a terrible start, as they slumped to 0-2, and continued to struggle throughout their innings, as Thomas Wing took 3-31 and Mike Yuill an excellent 5-18. However, Dhanish Hussain made a breezy 33 from 37 balls, which included five fours and a six, but was the last man out as the scores were level.

League leaders Middlesbrough had a crucial win at champions Richmondshire, as they asked the Dalesmen to bat first. At 21-4 they were reeling, but Matthew Price gave them a fighting chance with a robust 42 runs in a total of 107, following some excellent bowling from Ahsan Shrindal who took 4-13 and Harry Williams 3-46.

Although the winning score was 108-5, Boro were never really in trouble thanks to 43 runs apiece for Matthew Bell and Cole Pearce, as they put on 57 runs for the second wicket.

Saltburn are second and just two points behind the leaders, following their two wicket win at home to MacMillan Cup winners Hartlepool, on D/L method. Pools took first knock and made a healthy 214-7 before the rain came, but the newly promoted club held firm and reached their revised target of 199, for the loss of seven wickets.

Marton are third and back in the title race, just eight points behind Middlesbrough, following their 51 run win at Great Ayton. Batting first they made 184-6, as Liam Coates made an excellent 81 from 100 balls, which included two fours and five sixes. Youngster Tom Miller then made 30, as they put on a vital 70 run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Ayton made a solid start, as Neil Pearson made 32 and Phillip Holdsworth 27, but Lee Hodgson was in devastating form with the ball, as he blew the home side away with an excellent 7-28 from 9.5 overs, with wicket-keeper Chris Veasey claiming seven catches behind the wicket, in a final total of 125 all out.

Thornaby racked up the runs at home to Marske, scoring 230-5. Opener John Watson with 53, Michael Muldowney made 60, Luke Gettings 43 and Shahid Mahmood 33 not out, setting the pace.

The Seasiders were set a revised target of 200 from 37 overs, but Luke Gettings with the ball claimed 3-46 including the crucial wicket of Christopher Lance, who made 57 and claim the points for the home side.

Stokesley make the long trip to Barnard Castle and decided to bat first after winning the toss. Opener Andrew Weighell made 71 from 99 balls, which included seven fours and three sixes and then Craig Baptist scored 51, as they put on 123 runs for the second wicket before the rain abandoned the match, with the visitors on 173-3 off 43.2 overs.

Darlington Building Society NYSD ECB – Division One

Darlington remain third, as they narrowly beat a young Sedgefield side at Feethams, by 20 runs. The Quakers batted first and made 139 all out, thanks to Alex Metcalfe who scored 37 runs. On the bowling front, Sam North claimed an excellent 5-29 and Kieron Latcham claimed 4-33.

In reply the visitors struggled to 34-5, as Jonathan Barnes took an excellent 5-18 from 15 overs. However, Ben Wright fought back with a score of 55 from 92 balls, which included six fours and a six, but it was not enough, as they came up 20 runs short on 119-9.

Dukes ECB North East Premier League

Banks Salver – East Group

Champions Burnmoor won the big game at the top of the league, as they beat Hetton Lyons by 92 runs. Batting first they racked up 198 runs, thanks to Ryan Pringle (43), Paul Craig (30) and Alexander Simpson a breezy 41 runs from 2 balls, which included five fours and a six, while Ben Whitehead claimed the bowling honours with 4-58.

The Lyons made a fairly solid start, but then collapsed from 76-3 to 106 all out, as Craig Stephenson claimed a brilliant 5-15 from his eight overs.

Eppleton are third, following their 110 run win at bottom club Boldon. They batted first and scored a mammoth 282-6, as Robert Talbot smashed a 57 ball century (107no), which included eight fours and seven sixes, while Kristian Jefferson added 59 to his name.

The home side were never in it, but batted well scoring 172-6 from their 40 overs, with Joseph Coyne scoring 44 and Oliver Sampson-Barnes making 35.

Philadelphia travelled to Castle Eden and lost by five wickets. Phili won the toss and decided to bat first, but made just 130 all out, mainly thanks to Ryan Dowens scoring 54, from 76 balls. James Dunn claimed 3-15 with the ball.

On 24-3, the home side started badly, but then had Lewis Williams (39) and Alan Unsworth (35no) to thank, as they made the runs to claim the victory, despite two wickets apiece for Stevie Wright and Luke Robinson.

Banks Salver – West Group

Chester-le-Street went top of the group and celebrated in style, with a massive 285 run win at Crook. They scored an enormous 350-5, as Andrew Smith hit the ball to all parts, scoring 124 from 68 balls, which included 14 fours and six sixes. Skipper John Coxon added 88 runs from 74 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes, with Quentin Hughes adding 64 not out, from 36 deliveries.

The home side were never in the game, as Quentin Hughes, Liam Burgess and Amaan UlHaq, each took two wickets, in a final score of 65 all out.

Sacriston won for the first time, as they beat Burnopfield by eight wickets. The home side were all out for 155 runs after deciding to bat first, mainly thanks to opener John Oswell who made 33 and Chris Greaves 22, while Jack Keall claimed 3-50 and there was two wickets apiece for Luke Husband and Nathan Hall.

The visitors then made the runs fairly comfortably, as Jonny Bushnell scored 68 not out and Ross Whitfield made 55 not out, in an unbroken partnership of 105 runs, in a final score of 158-2.

Lanchester hosted Willington and the visitors won a high scoring game, by eight wickets. Luke McCabe with 40, Kieran Gohery with 33, Greg Patterson with 44 and Daniel storey with 39 runs, totalled a decent score of 202-6.

However, openers Adam Khan who cracked 84 runs from 106 deliveries, which included 15 fours and Reece Carr who made 39, in an opening partnership of 103 runs. James Stock then added 39 runs to his name, in a final winning total of 205-2.

Durham and North East Cricket League

Frank Lees Cup – Group B

Brandon are second, following their win at home to Mainsforth. They were asked to bat first, and Gordon Muchall made runs again, scoring 83 from 79 balls, which included 11 fours and two sixes, in a final total of 186 all out. On the bowling front, Ryan Cummings claimed 4-29 and there were two wickets each for Ryan Dawson and Ryan Nicholson.

The visitors then batted, but were never really in the game as they were all out for 125 runs. Opener Chris Coatsworth top scored with 28, but Jordan Grosert with 3-13 and Ryan Green with 2-30, saw their side to victory.

Esh Winning are up to third, with a convincing 170 run win at Hunwick. They racked up 223-6, thanks to 93 runs from Shahid Khan which came off 116 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes.

The home side then capitulated to 53 all out, as Jonathan Hodgson (5-21), Paul Chivers (3-11) and Ishan Ul Haq (2-4), bowled them to a crucial win.

Easington won at Murton in a low scoring game by 31 runs. The visitors made just 93 all out, with Dane Wilson top scoring with 29, as James Watson claimed 4-23 with the ball.

In reply, the home side struggled from the start, with Omar Shahid (3-14) and an excellent return of 6-33 from Ian Rickaby, was the difference between the teams.

Durham City racked up the runs at home to Peterlee, as they scored 247-8, thanks to Callum Steel (66), Dom Scott (37), Lewis Carney (31) and Izaak Beck (39). Joseph Spalding then made a fine 75 for the visitors, but it was not enough in a final score of 152 all out.

Evenwood remain bottom, as they were bowled out for just 34, as they entertained Tudhoe. Nobody made it to double figures, as James Curry took an absolute brilliant 8-10 with the ball. Stephen Brown then hit the highest score of the match (20no), to secure an easy win on 35-3.
