A PROBLEM with the dimensions of its bowling green has left Richmond Bowls Club needing to raise £22,650 for work to ensure the green meets Bowls England standards.

It is understood that the edges of the green are being compressed into the space reserved for the ditch.

Bowls England’s rules for matchplay require that the ditches conform to set dimensions and Richmond’s do not match the criteria.

A grant of £15,855 has been received from Richmondshire District Council, but that still leaves £6,795 to be found.

To help raise the balance a crowdfunding appeal is being launched from tomorrow, Saturday, August 1.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/green-and-ditch-repair.

The club has recently reopened its gates to members and is now allowing up to six teams of three players on the green at any one time.

Playing slots need to be pre-booked via the club’s website, and social distancing regulations are strictly adhered to.
