THE latest Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers virtual championship event was held on yet another excellent course set by Rob Burn, for members to use or find their own parallel course to replace the HDSRL event at Nidd Valley.

Seventy one members and friends completed the course, a tremendous turnout, and really keeping runners motivated.

The route was multi-terrain and just less than six miles, with a bit of a climb, and Tom Levi, who continues his superb form – what a pity there aren’t any actual races for him to enter – did the fastest time of 35.08.

Ever-present Stephan Tomaszewski was second in 39.23 and Matt Jones third in 39.29. Esther Harrison was once again first lady finisher in 41.39 with running machine, Lorraine Hiles, second in 43.11 and Trudy Morrice third in 44.13.

This was the seventh out of a possible 20 club championship races.

Meanwhile, Phillip Craig and Tracey Lowther had set their sights far higher when they completed a virtual marathon with Run With The World. The two runners kept one another going over the testing course set by Tracey’s husband, Mike, and Phillip took 5.29.58, Tracey 5.30.34.

Their training is in preparation for a 55 mile race, if it goes ahead, later in the year, and they are aiming to try to do a marathon distance once a month.
