WITH storm Ciara forecast for Sunday, the Saturday park runners were lucky to get their races in before the weather significantly worsened.

It was a special day for Rosie Gatenby achieving her 100th Park Run, this week at Fountains Abbey, though she is a real park run tourist.

She was among the 470 finishers, coming 397th in 36.27, though well behind first club finisher, Lorraine Hiles, who just seems to go from strength to strength.

With a percentage rating of 83, Lorraine came 43rd in PB 21.33, with Paul Chapman 59th, also with PB time 22.33, Gary Wilkinson 61st in 22.41, Marc Davies – not entirely in his element on smooth tracks, but getting a good result – 87th in 23.48, Trish Radford 191st in 27.44, Molly Mayes 201st in PB 27.59, Paul Adams 218th in 28.30, David Palmer 258th in 30.19, Sharon Keegan 328th in 33.17, Bev Davies, putting in a rare appearance after a long injury lay-off, 395th in 36.26, Rosie was next, then Gillian Crane 431st in 39.45, with Ian Codling, taking it steady this week, 450th in 43.42 and Ian Crane, walking the course, 465th in 48.38.

Marian Codling helped with zapping runners’ bar codes at the finish.

Geoff Bullock was the sole club representative at the Millfield event, coming 47th out of 196 in 26.06. Rob Burn likes hills and he likes off-road so he was in his element for the Whinlatter Forest Park Run, with its 1,000 feet of ascent billed as one of the toughest in the country. He finished 17th out of 126, and 1st M65, in 25.38 with Christine Burn 103rd in 38.08. They were in a succession of Harriers who have run at Whinlatter recently.

Nearer to home, Ken Evitt had a change of venue at the New Earswick event, finishing 52nd out of 80 in 31.34.

Mike Cropper is another who likes to ring the changes and he was 24th out of 988 at Heaton in 19.43.

The Muddy Boots 10k, which should have taken place at Ripon on Sunday, was one of the many events which fell victim to Storm Ciara and had to be cancelled, which was disappointing for runners and very frustrating for all the people who had spent a lot of time organising the race.

Conditions were much better the previous weekend for the Glaisdale Rigg Fell Race, Race Eight in the Dave Parry Winter Series, though there was still plenty of mud around, as well as some tough climbs. Trudy Morrice came 62nd, and 2nd F45, out of 132 in 84.41, just ahead of Marc Davies 63rd in 84.58, with Alan Simpson 69th in 85.43 and Fran Jeffery 97th in 93.49.
