BEDALE and Aiskew Runners (BAR) club members were taking part is several events last weekend.

A bright sunshiny bank holiday weekend brought challenges around the country for BAR club members.

The 10th Helmsley 10K all-terrain challenge, leaving picturesque Helmsley on roads and then into forestry and fields before emerging to return on roads to Helmsley. Two BAR members tackled this alongside a 358 strong field, Will Retchless 41.38, achieving a fantastic 27th position and Raymond Lightle 55.36 in 167th position and first in V65 category both improving their standings in the club championship.

This weekend saw Parkruns completed in the north, south, east and west of the country. Close to home five runners in some fast looking times at Catterick, Matt Barnes 22.46, Paul Berry 22.20, Rachel Burr 30.00, Rebecca Smith 22.10. Henry Anderson made the short trip to Fountains Abbey completing in 28.53.

Further afield BAR members ran at Fell Foot in Cumbria Matt Randall 21.21, Jess Mallinson 32.18 and in the East of England at Catton Paul Simpson ran in 19.59 and second claim member Nicola Simpson in 21.25.

Other BAR club members have been taking on new challenges at Stockton Duathlon, a 10k run, 40k bike, 5k run to finish. Paul Berry finished 152nd in 2 hours 25 minutes 45 seconds and Chris Lees finished 167th in 2 hours 30 minutes 32 seconds, a great experience in a strong field.

A 2nd claim BAR member Lena Conlin took on the challenge of her 86 marathon completing the Boston UK Marathon. A field of 635 set out from Boston town centre from under the stunning church spire winding the way along country lanes, through villages. Lena finished 403rd and 14th in the F50 category in 4 hours 13 minutes 58 seconds.
