BARNARD Castle Rugby Club has celebrated another first as nine players from its girls team have been called up to the county squads of U15s and their U18s fielded their first ever ladies team against Hartlepool Rovers 2nd team.
In the game, Barnard Castle enjoyed spells of attacking and got on the score sheet first through Katie Boddy scoring her and the club's first ever ladies try to go 5-0 up. As the game went on the Rovers experience started to show through and they edged the game 17-5.
Ladies and girls' team chairman, Paul Davies, said: "The girls teams were started 30 months ago and it is great that with support from the men's and junior academy that they have come so far in such a short time."
