EVERY week throughout the country and the world, thousands of people take part in Park Runs, all possible because of the wonderful volunteers in attendance.

Just occasionally, something goes wrong, and this happened at Fountains Abbey on Saturday. The timing system didn't work correctly and all 446 runners were given the fall back time in such cases of 59.59, including the 15 or so Harriers. It was a pity, really, as it was Ian Crane's 100th park run, but cake was on hand to celebrate after the race no matter what.

3 members were among the 103 at Northallerton, with Paul Bradford coming 18th in another PB, 24.19, Ken Evitt 54th in 28.52 and Phillip Craig 60th in 29.22, his first time under 30 minutes for ages.

At Dalby Forest, Rob Burn, going well just now, was 16th out of 222 in 21.26, Andy Butcher 19th in 21.57 and Christine Burn 122nd in 30.21.

On the last Sunday of the month at some National Trust properties, a free 10k run is held, starting at 9 am. The nearest one to us is Ormesby Hall, and 3 of our members gave it a go last weekend, along with 200 plus others, on a very cold, very windy morning. The course covered some of the terrain run in the cross country event the previous week, with an additonal hill to make it more testing. Lorraine Hiles took 51.49, Rosie Gatenby about 70 minutes, and Kirsty Naylor somewhere in between!

Preparations are well in hand for the Thirsk 10, hosted by the club from Thirsk Racecourse on March 17th. Following advice from the police, the race will have an earlier start this year, 10 am. Entries are open at bookitzone, or get full details from the Thirsk and Sowerby Hariers website.
