Bainbridge & D.M.C. Charity Evening

THE Bainbridge Motor Club staged their annual dinner and awards function at the Saddle room near Middleham, Coverdale last Friday evening. Club Chairman Mike Percival thanked the ninety officials who enjoyed three course dinner. Mr Percival also praised all present and members for their support over the twelve months.Among the special guests were Mick Wilkinson, Ray and Ken Sayer. He also commented on the Bainbridge motor cycle hill climb remarking on the record entry of one hundred and forty competitors and also the record spectator attendance figure. The event raised £1500 which will donated to two charities. Multi Isle of Man T.T. winner competed John McGuiness competed along with Harry Lampkin who rode a 440cc BSA belonging to Scott Trial winner Dougie Lampkin who presented the hill climb awards. Late news on the hill climb venue is that 250 tons of material has been laid to even further test the competitors. The main reason for the 250 tons delivery was the hill was developing ruts and exposing boulders which tended break the surface and roll down the incline.

Bradford & District Motor Club, John Metcalfe Trophy Trial, Cowling, Sunday

THE annual John Metcalfe Trophy trial was really battered by the weather on the exposed Ice Age Cowling Craggs on Sunday. Dense hill fog and driving horizontal rain tested the Bradford Motor Club organising team over the weekend, and the observers and competitors on Sunday. Water came into play at Lumb Waterfall where eleven section closed the lap. Brian Ayrton doubled up and observed the eleventh and twelfth section and where Gas Gas star and winner Richard Sadler dropped a mark. Lucy Ayrton was entrusted with the final grassy hill climb. The fourteen year old could not compete because the event entailed road mileage.

Thirsk & D.M.C. Trial, Low Kilburn Grange, Sunday

THIRSK DMC staged their Low Kilburn Grange trial on Sunday, heavy rain earlier threatening cancellation, but the lads worked hard to plot a good four lap, ten section course for the forty entrants. Beta UK teamster Ian Austermuhle was at his best, just a seven mark total, five of these going on the awkward, slippery rocks of the third. Adam Milner and James Carr cleaned here to keep the pressure on, but Milner let the win slip away, stalling on the fourth and Carr struggled on the seventh, a snotty climb and tight, swooping pivot round a tree to exit. Elliot Laws took Youth A win, with a score placing him second in Inter class. His `hang on` clean first lap over the rocks of the second hazard to equal Austy`s ride was superb. Paul Dennis, also in top form, grabbed A class laurels due to good rides on the second and fifth, while Colin Bailey, out on the Yamaha, consistent as ever, losing only one on the second to take the B class win from Andy Lewis and Guisborough`s Chris Banks.
