GUY KENDREW defeated his friend and rival Richard Sadler in what was a final showdown riding an Acklam Beta machine. The Ingleby Arncliffe artistic wood worker will switch to a Gas Gas machine next weekend.

Both Sadler and Kendrew will compete on almost identical 300cc Gas Gas machines at top level events on the British trials scene. The venue for the final stand was Tongue Hill, Marske where the Richmond Motor Club staged the Eric Ridley Memorial Trial over a fifteen section two lap course. Seventy five riders of all ages and sizes contested the trial in eight classes. Only five rode the hard route where Kendrew incurred just two penalties, half the score of rival Sadler. Fingalls teenager Robert Weatherill posted a class winning result on the same section matching Scott Trial veteran Phillip Alderson. Trials elders Mark Willis and Adrian Harrison gave way to youth in the form of Richard Fraser. Top youth in the same class was Andrew Reynolds who really turned on the style to win the class by a good margin. Paul Terry and Paul Sadler jousted for the Clubman class victory. The former will reflect on his two maximums in section two and four on lap one. Andy Kearton and William Wood were stationed ready for any more Terry losses. Former Scott Trial Clerk of Course Bruce Storr who was giving his Beta machine a rare outing in the Over 40's class where he was second to winner Leigh Smith. Melsonby youth Martyn Pratt won Class A Youth riding a new CJT Beta machine. Rhona Peacock and Anne Stones undertook the secretarial duties while Raymond and Richard Ridley set out the course, overseen by senior gamekeeper Richard Coates. And the footnote- Paul Lonergan travelled all the way from Colchester to ride in the trial. A round trip of almost five hundred miles just to sample Scott Trial country!

Scarborough & D.M.C. Cliff Collinson Memorial Trial, Low north Park, Sunday

EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD JST Gas Gas rider Jack Peace certainly stuck to his sponsor's logo `Inch Perfect`, nailing Scarborough DMC`s Cliff Collinson trial at Harwood Dale on Sunday with a fantastic ride of just three marks lost.

Whitby`s Andy Chilton, aboard the Birkett Scorpa, snatched second from Dan Peace by one mark. A glorious day weather wise and Jack started strong, only the slippery tree stump and roots of the eighth taking a mark each lap. Nicola Dixon at the 14th had a wicked rock step climb, Dan and Jack both hitting it fast to clean, `Chilly` needed one, but kept the pressure on young Peace until the final lap, when a five let him down here.

Zac Collinson headed the Intermediate entry, holding off Rob Carter by two marks and David Coulson almost snatched A class win from Consett`s Stephen Bennett, only most cleans rules separating them. Stokesley`s Ian Morley eases back into the trials game with a good win in Class B to beat Malton`s

David Teasdale by three marks.
