Ladies section

Thursday 15th November, Ladies Turkey Trot

As always, a full field of lady members took to the fairways of Masham in order to attempt to secure their Christmas dinner. There were no excuses blaming the weather this year although, it has to be said, that generally, Thursday (Ladies day at Masham) is usually a very wet affair and, generally, does not put the ladies off their golf, so any failing scores for this Turkey Trot had to be down to other reasons. After a very hard fought competition however, three teams managed to score 71 points to take the first prize. So, as often happens, it was down to a back nine countback and coming in to win first prize was Jackie Thirsk, Judith Nickols and Sheila Gray. In second place was Jean Ogden, Ruth Bousfield and Linda Robinson, and in third place was Anne Stebbing, Brenda Loveday and their secret partner, Maureen Dillon. Captain, The Chicken Run (9 hole) was won by Janet Greensit.Lady Captain Pat Watts thanked everybody for taking part and thanked Pam, Janet and Kath for a superb meal after the game.

Mixed Section

Sunday, 18th November, the November mixed competition

A gorgeous day heralded a good day’s golf for a full field of mixed teams of four. Best man and lady to score on holes other than par threes, where all four scores were to count, therefore 96 points was the par for the day.

Shirt sleeves were to be observed during the afternoon’s sun shine as teams made their steady way around the course; steady because of the falling leaves covering golf balls. Of course we all know, if you play straight down the fairway, you can always find your ball. However, like bunkers and water, leaves attract golf balls!

Winners: In first place, with 93pts, were Alec and Sue Whitehead (the organisers and regular winners), with partners, Jackie and Alistair Meakin. In second place with 92pts were Brenda and Jeff Loveday with their partners, Judith Nickols and Paul Aldred (new to mixed golf). In third place with 91pts were Jan and David McGee with their partners, Ros Casson and Eric Daniels (both making a welcome return to the Mixed competitions)

Many thanks went to Pam, Kath and Sandra for Pam’s very tasty carvery and to Kevin behind the bar.
