THE second event in the NYSD cross country season was hosted at Acklam by Middlesbrough and Cleveland Harriers on a persistently cold and wet day. This did not seem to affect Club Captain, Olivia Mulligan, who had a superb run to finish 1st Senior Lady in 21.57. Jill Libby came 71st out of 109 in 30.02 and Christine Burn 99th in 34.36. Men over 65 ran with the ladies, and Rob Burn was 1st M65 in 23.52, with Ken Evitt 4th in 31.17. Geoff Bullock was 1st M70 in 28.23.

Senior men had to run twice the distance, and Joshua Fothergill was once again in fine form, coming a very good 24th out of 190 in 38.43.

Stephan Tomaszewski finished 81st in 43.02, Mike Cropper 117th in 45.35, Martyn Coy 123rd in 46.14, David Tervit 159th in 50.32, Duncan Fothergill 171st in 52.48 and Richard Easby 190th in 75.18.

Several other races were happening that day, all in pouring rain, and Lorraine Hiles coped admirably to complete the Yorkshire Marathon in 4.11.18. The 10 mile race, part of the same event, had 4 Harriers among the 3037 finishers, with Malcolm Aitken taking 1.24.49, Tuesday Miller 1.25.09, Joanne Hunt 1.36.58 and Liz Stephenson 2.08.45.

The weather was no better in Slough for Howard Cross at the Slough Half Marathon, and he finished a very good 42nd in 1.36.

Those who know Richmond know they can expect a hilly course for the Richmond Castle 10k. The race is mainly on road so the going is as good as it can be, and Paul Atkinson came 44th out of 376 in 44.02, Kirsty Naylor 115th in 49.46, Ian Codling 367th in 80.46 and Marian Codling 371st in 84.06.

Saturday by contrast was very warm for the Park Runs, and at Fountains Abbey, Paul Adams came 163rd out of 278 in 29.57, Linda Bamforth 191st in 31.49, Gillian Crane 209th in 32.49, Ian Crane 210th in 32.58 and Jane Cummins 230th in 35.22.

Paul Bradford had another very good run at Northallerton, finishing 7th out of 55 in 24.39 with Phillip Craig 27th in 29.57. At the Catterick event, Peter Richardson was 26th out of 124 in 24.45,
