NINE members did the Great North Run at the weekend, enjoying the excellent atmosphere, and enduring the heat after a cold early morning. Most were pleased with their efforts in spite of the crush in places, and the disconcerting sight of people needing treatment at the side of the road.

Club Captain, Olivia Mulligan, was outstanding, finishing 29th lady - and with 20 of those in front of her elite runners, this really was superb - in a PB time of 1.27.20. Richard Harry took 1.46. 06, Andy Butcher 1.52.56, 4 minutes quicker than last year, Craig Ivey pleased with his 2.05.44, Phillip Craig 2.15.16, Trish Radford 2.15.32, Joanne Hunt 2.15.36, Alison Butcher 2.25.33 and Caroline Pearce 2.32.17, a full 5 minutes faster than last year.

Congratulations all.

In a parallel event the previous day, Ian and Marian Codling were among the 1000 or so runners of the inaugural Tees 10k along both sides of the River Tees and taking in Newport Bridge and Infinity Bridge. The level course, with some congestion in places, took Ian 75.32 and Marian 79.21, and interesting goody bag and bowl of pasta rounded off a very good event.

Prior to that race, they enjoyed watching the finish of the elite mile, mens' and women's races, the latter including winner Laura Muir as well as Eilish MacColgan and Hannah England.

302 runners completed the Fountains Abbey Park Run, with Heather Bell 100th in 25.40, Ian Crane 111th in 26.20, Paul Adams 218th in 30.55 and Gillian Crane 229th in 31.48.

At Northallerton, Paul Bradford came 22nd out of 99 in 24.29 and Peter Richardson at Catterick came 44th out of 124 in 25.54. Rosie Gatenby ran at Sewerby and came 81st out of 189 in28.11.

Earlier in the week, the final race of this year's Coast Road Series took place, the 5k 2 lap course between New Marske and Redcar, with Ian Codling finishing 184th in 35.09 and Marian Codling 185th in 37.43.
