STOCKTON motorcycle racer Daley Mathison followed up his recent Isle of Man TT successes with another solid performance at last week’s Southern 100 held on the Billown Circuit near Castletown on the island.

Riding the Eddie Stobart-backed 1000cc BMW, Mathison followed up a 13th place finish in the seven-lap Senior race with a battling 11th in the feature Solo Championship race over nine laps to confirm his road racing credentials. Yorkshireman Dean Harrison took the main honours of the week including victory in the Solo Championship.

REDCAR SG Petch Bears bounced back from a heavy defeat the previous week to take on Scunthorpe Scorpions last week and came away with a resounding victory.

In heat one, Bears’ guest was none other than their ex-Captain Aaron Summers, who won with team-mate Ben Barker second for a 5-1 score. Bears’ Coty Garcia and Danny Ayres scored another 5-1 in heat two and this scoreline was repeated in heat three with a win Jonas B Andersen ahead of Ellis Perks.

Heat four saw a win for Barker, in the fastest time of the meeting, with Scorpions’ Lewis Kerr second before Andersen won the next heat with Perks second, after ex-Bear Carl Wilkinson retired with a mechanical problem for the visitors. Kerr won heat six ahead of Summers and Ayres to split the points. In the next heat Garcia scored his second win of the meeting with Barker second after Scorpions’ Ryan Douglas had a fall and was excluded.

In heat eight, the Bears scored their sixth 5-1 of the meeting with a win for Perks ahead of Ayres to make the scoreline 37-11 to the Bears. In an attempt to claw back some of the deficit, Scorpions rider Kerr wore the tactical helmet and promptly won to score six points. However, Andersen was second and Perks third to limit the effect on the home team. Points were split in the next heat with Scorpions’ Josh Auty taking his only win of the meeting with Andersen second and Summers third.

Barker won heat 11 from Scorpions’ captain Michael Palm-Toft with Garcia third before the points were split in the next heat with another win for the on-form Andersen. Barker and Summers scored a 4-2 in the next heat when Palm-Toft split them and after two previous falls, Ryan Douglas won the penultimate heat from Garcia and Ellis.

Heat 15 was Barker’s fourth win of the meeting with Kerr second and Andersen third whilst Garcia’s nine points was a good finish to his period on loan at Redcar covering for the injured German rider Tobias Busch, who is due the return next week. The final scoreline was Bears 61-32 Scorpions.
