Two jockeys currently leading the national championships will be hoping to add to their tally throughout the Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival, sponsored by Sky Bet.

Danny Tudhope heads the race for flat jockeys and has a ride in every race at Ripon today on the opening day of the week-long annual Festival.

The on-fire partnership of Tudhope and David O’Meara will once again be joining forces for three attempts to increase his lead, with the other rides coming from the Yorkshire yards of James Bethell and Roger Fell as well as Monmouthshire-based David Evans and James Tate, based in Newmarket, before he heads to Doncaster for this evening's meeting.

Hoping to make it a hat-trick of wins as leading jockey of the summer Festival, he said: “The Go Racing In Yorkshire Festival is great. I have been top jockey for the last two years and I’m certainly hoping to repeat that this year.

“I love riding in Yorkshire, so it’s brilliant when I get the chance. The festival also adds a bit of healthy competition amongst us jockeys, which is good, as everyone wants to be top jockey at the end.”

Following in the footsteps of the likes of Robert Winston, Paul Hanagan and Freddie Tylicki is Sean Davis, who, like the others is learning his trade under the tutelage of Richard Fahey.

Davis currently leads the apprentice title and has four opportunities at Ripon to maintain his advantage, while Richard Fahey is looking to retain his leading trainer title from last year.

He said: “It’ll be tough to win the title again this year. We will be trying but there are some local yards in great form.”

The first race at Ripon starts at 1.45pm.
