SATURDAY marks the return of the flat season at Doncaster - and the first leg in the Go Racing in Yorkshire Future Stars Apprentice Series.

An apprentice race is held at each Yorkshire racecourse, with the final on Doncaster in November.

Points are awarded throughout the series to the first six riders past the post and the jockey with the most points by the end of the series wins a cash prize, a saddle from White Rose Saddlery, plus sponsorship from Go Racing in Yorkshire for the following season.

2018 series winner Kieran Schofield, who is hoping to have a ride in the race said: “Winning the series was a career highlight so far and the sponsorship from Go Racing in Yorkshire is really helpful, both financially but also through the additional support I receive.”

Wendy Hoggard from White Rose Saddlery said: “We are really keen to continue our support of the Future Stars Apprentice Series.  Being a Yorkshire based company it made sense to work with Go Racing in Yorkshire on this initiative and I like to support the youngsters starting out in the industry, so it ticks all the boxes for us.”

The second race in the series takes place at Ripon on Thursday 18th April.
