Spennymoor Town 1 North Ferriby 1.

Spennymoor are now without a win in seven league matches after they failed to beat the division’s bottom club at the Brewery Field last night Nippy striker David Foley gave them the energy that they have been lacking in their gruelling fixture schedule, but they couldn’t add to his first half goal. They now they need to beat Southport at the Brewery Field on Saturday to clinch the last play off place and a play off qualifying round tie at Kidderminster. A draw won’t be enough if Bradford PA win at Kidderminster in their last league game, but they have also given late hope to Blyth and York.

If Moors do finish seventh, then they’ll have to win the play offs the hard way, as every one of their three potential games will be away from home.

Moors started the game with defender James Curtis in the centre of defence, with his head covered in a bandage after suffering a cut on Tuesday night. Joe Tait, who replaced him on Tuesday, wasn’t in the 16 man squad.

Ferriby, who were relegated a month ago, nearly took the lead after 3 minutes when Jamie Forrester sent Jordan Harrison away, and he squared for the quickly-arriving Josh Walker to toe poke wide.

But Moors replied when David Foley picked up a Rob Ramshaw cross, swivelled quickly, and fired just wide from the edge of the box.

Kallum Griffiths received a quickly-taken free kick and was just over the bar with a 25 yarder with his right foot, and then on the opposite side of the field put a left foot shot just over the bar.

Foley then got around the back of the defence on the left and pulled the ball back for Adam Curry, whose flick was blocked by keeper Lewis Exall on the line.

Moors took a deserved lead on 28 minutes when Foley raced into the box from the left, and from a tight angle managed to squeeze the ball past several defenders into the net.

Foley nearly got a second with a low shot from the edge of the box that Exall pushed around the post.

But Moors keeper Dan Lowson made an important save at the other end when Harrison set up Luke Lofts ten yards out, and he dived to block at the striker’s feet, and then the keeper denied Lofts again after a poor headed clearance fell for the striker ten yards out.

Foley was always a threat at the other end, and he played a 1-2 with Mattie Dixon which ended with him firing just wide of the post again, and just on half time, Exall managed to push a towering header by Glen Taylor on to the bar.

Moors were more subdued in the second half, until the 61st minute when Andy Johnson played a good ball into the box for Taylor to have a shot blocked by Exall.

But the goal that Moors dreaded most of all arrived on 63 minutes when Harrison controlled a left wing cross in space on the outside of the box, and rolled the ball under the advancing Lowson, only their 12th goal away from home this season.

Moors made two subs to liven things up, and they nearly regained the lead when Taylor won the ball from Exall outside the box, but Exall recovered his ground and saved with his legs.

Exall then pulled off a great save to stop Johnson’s blockbuster as the visitors were pegged back, and he then somehow managed to deflect Mark Anderson’s shot wide.

And right at the death it could have been worse for Moors, but Lowson saved point blank from Harrison.
