AFC Telford United 3 Spennymoor Town 2.

Spennymoor failed to hold on to a half time lead and instead went down 3-2 at the New Buck’s Head.

Moors played some great football in the first half and led with two spectacular goals, but Telford’s equaliser early in the second half turned the game in their favour.

Nevertheless, Moors are still in seventh place in the table, occupying the last play off place, with at least two games in hand on the teams around them.

Moors nearly took the lead in the first minute, when Andy Johnson sent Rob Ramshaw into the penalty area, but a defender just managed to get a challenge in and deny him.

Telford posed danger from an early setpiece which ended with a header by Shane Sutton that went wide, and they took the lead from another on 9 minutes when a corner came into the six yard box from the right and Marcus Dinanga headed in.

But within four minutes Moors were level when midfielder Nathan Lowe, who came into the starting line up, for Ryan Hall hit a spectacular free kick from 25 yards out that flew into the top right hand corner past the stranded keeper.

And Moors went ahead with another terrific goal on 23 minutes, when Johnson picked the ball up on the left, ran forward, and curled the ball into the top corner.

With their tails up, Moors nearly got another, but Johnson’s shot from the edge of the box was blocked.

Moors kept control of the game at the start of the second half, and were always capable of scoring a third, before they were stunned by a Telford equaliser on 52 minutes when Ryan Giles ran on to a through ball to put him 1 on 1 against Dan Lowson, and he stroked the ball past the advancing keeper.

Giles then missed two more chances as Telford looked to take the lead.

But there was controversy on 69 minutes when a Lowe free kick was blocked by a Telford player, enabling Telford to break away and almost score through Giles.

Telford managed to break through on 73 minutes when Giles’ shot was cleared off the line as far as Elliott Newby, who fired into the top corner past Lowson.

And Telford nearly rubbed salt into the wounds when Amari Morgan-Smith broke clean through, but he fired over the top.
