Harrogate Town 1 Spennymoor Town 2.

Spennymoor pulled off yet another excellent victory in the Vanarama National League North, when two goals in ten second half minutes set them up for victory over second in the table Harrogate Town.

The win, which completes a double for Moors over their full time opponents having beaten them at the Brewery Field earlier in the season, puts them in sixth place in the table, firmly in the play off positions.

Both sides started the game brightly, with Liam Kitching heading wide from George Thomson’s cross for Harrogate in the opening minutes, while Ryan Hall put a shot wide at the other end.

Moors played some good football on the artificial pitch and slowly got on top, but Harrogate nearly took the lead when Joe Leesley crossed for former Darlington striker Mark Beck, but Moors centre half James Curtis just managed to head the ball away.

Greg Rutherford, who was making his full debut in place of the injured Glen Taylor, had a shot blocked on the half hour mark as Moor continued to cause problems.

However, Moors were up against ten men just before half time when Kitching went in two-footed on Moors midfielder Rob Ramshaw, and was shown a straight red by the referee.

Harrogate through created the first chance of the second half when Ryan Fallowfield, who had replaced Joe Leesley just before half time, broke away, but Dan Lowson touched his effort over the bar.

But Moors took the lead on 54 minutes when James Curtis, who had gone up front for a corner, stayed in the penalty area and cleverly beat Harrogate keeper James Belshaw with a header into the top corner of the net.

Moors nearly got another shortly after when Ryan Hall broke away, but Belshaw did well to save his shot.

However, Moors took a firm grip on the game after 63 minutes when Fallowfield made a mess of getting the ball back to his keeper, allowing Andy Johnson to nip in, and he ran on to beat Belshaw.

Moors missed chances to increase the lead, and that opened the door for Harrogate to pull a goal back, when Mark Beck tapped in from a Jack Emmett cross.

Harrogate then threw men forward looking for the equaliser, and Moors just managed to get the ball away in a goalmouth scramble, but they held out until the final whistle.

Moors’ next game is at Gainsborough on Friday afternoon.
