Durham City chairman Olivier Bernard has said that several disagreements led to the shock departure of manager Adam Furness at the weekend.

City won 6-1 last Saturday against Bedlington to put them seventh in the table, but Furness and his assistant Ian Skinner were both sacked after the game.

“I would like to thank Adam for all his efforts on behalf of the club. The team enjoyed some decent results and there is no question Adam is an excellent coach,” said Bernard.

“However, since my arrival to the club earlier this season, there have been several disagreements relating to the club’s organisation and football strategy going forward which put a strain on the working relationship between Adam and me. I’m very disappointed that it has not worked out as I had hoped and I believe it is best for all parties that we part ways at this stage.

“I can assure supporters this was not an easy decision and was not taken lightly. I am confident that we will find the right man to move the club forward and lead the team to future success.”

Bernard has called a meeting of supporters at New Ferens Park on Tuesday night to explain his decision.

In the meantime, five players, Craig Hindmarch, Josh Gray, Denver Morris, Jack Walker and Max Stoker have all asked to leave. Striker Ian Ward has already joined Evo-Stik League club Darlington.
