We asked the Legends: What would you like to see your team do before the end of the transfer window?

MICKY HORSWILL

TIME is running out but I’d like to see us bring in a couple of players. Obviously we lost Darren Bent but we got plenty of money for him but nothing’s happened since, which is a bit worrying.

We’re close to signing Sessegnon and Muntari, and they’ll be good additions but we still need to fill the gap that has been left by Bent’s departure. We can’t just rely on Asamoah Gyan. What if he picks up an injury, then we’re left with no one to play up front. Campbell and Welbeck are still weeks away and it would be a massive risk for Steve Bruce to just go with Gyan.

BERNIE SLAVEN

I’D like to see us bring in a few new faces but I’m not sure that will happen. I’d like a striker, two wingers a central midfielder and a central defender, but I know that’s unrealistic.

Our position suggests we need to bring in some fresh faces to give us a boost for the rest of the season and obviously the loss of David Wheater and Gary O’Neil are disappointing, but with the financial situation we’re in, they had to be sold, but I don’t envisage Tony Mowbray getting all of that to spend.

The holes left by Wheater and O’Neil must be filled but I’m not so sure, given the financial situation of the club at the moment, that replacing them will be possible.

MALCOLM MACDONALD

I’D be happy if Newcastle just left it and did absolutely nothing. I’m not a fan of this transfer window, because more often or not people make panic buys and we don’t need to. The team have got themselves in a great position and the question is whether they can stay there and I think those players must be left to try and do it themselves, seen as they’ve got there in the first place.

I’m not entirely sure whether there is any money there for Alan Pardew to spend. We’ve been linked with several players but I think that’s just rumours that get started.

I’ve had lots of emails from fans asking if there’s any truth in Adrian Mutu coming to St James’ Park and it’s things like that which make me wonder where on earth these stories come from. Why would Newcastle want to sign a player who has been banned for drug use?

* Bernie Slaven is holding a Sportsman’s Dinner on May 15 to raise money for Gary Parkinson and his family.

Slaven will be getting the Middlesbrough team from 1986 together in aid of the former Boro defender, who suffered a stroke in September.
