WINGED FLIGHT (2.30) appears to have a simple task in Yarmouth's opening EBF Maiden Stakes.

Mark Johnston's colt made a pleasing introduction to his racing career by finishing third in a far hotter contest over six furlongs at Ascot 12 days ago.

Crucially, Winged Flight was sent off a well-fancied second favourite at odds of 7-2, a strong indication the two-year-old had been shining on the gallops prior to his promising debut.

The Middleham raider looked like he might land the bets when striking the front at the two-furlong pole, only for lack of peak fitness to take its toll and cause the selection to fade out of contention in the closing stages.

With the invaluable assistance of that outing under his belt, there'll be no such excuses in today's £6,500 contest, an event Winged Flight should win on the way to better things.

Even though we're talking bottom-of-the-barrel stuff when deliberating over the outcome of the Great Yarmouth Glass Maiden Handicap, there might still be some virtue in having a financial interest on Knead The Dough (4.30). Siding with horses yet to win a race of any description isn't an ideal way to go about the game, nevertheless none of the other 15 participants have yet to to prevail as well, so in my view it's actually an extremely level playing field.

Knead The Dough is by no means a total duffer, in fact he's made the frame on many occasions in the past and now just needs a little bit of luck to stick his head in front where it counts most.

Alan Swinbank's inmates are on a terrific roll, with 11 of his last 26 runners collecting.

While his team continue to fire on all cylinders it's not surprising to see Swinbank despatch Wind Star (3.40) to Haydock just five days after completing a double at Hamilton last Saturday.

Wind Star remains on a steep upward curve and provided those weekend exertions haven't sapped his energy, he could be the one to capture the most valuable first prize of the day, the £11,334 for the Racing UK Handicap.

* Aeroplane is likely to run in the City Of York Stakes on the Knavesmire on August 24. Peter Chapple-Hyam's colt has not been seen since finishing down the field in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
