ENGLISHMAN Scott Sutter was yesterday pinching himself after his Young Boys side were drawn to play his boyhood idols Tottenham in the Champions League play-off round.

Lifelong Spurs fan Sutter will take on the club he used to cheer on at White Hart Lane for a place in the lucrative group stage.

The Enfield-born 24-year-old left Britain for his father’s native Switzerland aged 16 and has been there ever since.

After watching yesterday’s draw, defender Sutter said: ‘‘It couldn’t be better. I’m still shaking from hearing the draw.

‘‘To be drawn against the team I grew up supporting is a special feeling for me.’’ Sutter revealed he had already been inundated with ticket requests for the first leg, which will be played at the Stade de Suisse on August 17/18.

‘‘All my friends are writing to me,’’ he said.

‘‘I’m going to have to make a list when I go home because I need to order about 200 tickets.

‘‘Hopefully I’ll stay injuryfree beforehand so I can play in the stadium where I once was a supporter.’’ Sutter moved to Switzerland to join Grasshoppers in 2002 after deciding to leave Charlton.

He explained: ‘‘It was a new sort of adventure for me and helped me grow up a lot quicker, learning a new languag, with the dream and aim to sometime move back to England.’’ That dream extends to playing for the country of his birth, with Sutter having previously represented Switzerland up to under-21 level.

He said: ‘‘There came a point when I really had to decide between the Swiss and England, when I turned 21.’’ As well as being a dream draw for Sutter, the Champions League play-off round has worked out perfectly for Spurs, who could not have landed a more favourable tie.

But Young Boys have already produced one shock, beating Fenerbahce in Istanbul in the previous round.

Meanwhile, Liverpool drew Turkish side Trabzonspor in the Europa League play-off round.

Roy Hodgson’s side will meet the club based in Trabzon, who have won the Turkish league six times, on August 19 and 26.

Manchester City will take on Romanian side FC Timisoara, while Aston Villa will face Rapid Vienna, Austria’s most successful club with 32 championships.
