JORDAN HENDERSON has received a maiden call-up into the England Under-21 squad for next Tuesday’s friendly with Uzbekistan.
The Sunderland midfielder is one of four new caps named in Stuart Pearce’s squad for the game at Ashton Gate.
Phil Jones, Martin Kelly and Marc Albrighton have also been selected for the first time by Pearce, but it is Henderson’s call up that catches the eye following his development into a first-team regular on Wearside last season.
Henderson made 23 Premier League starts last term and is set to become a feature in Pearce’s first-choice starting line up.
“Henderson would have been with us in March, but he picked up an injury which ruled him out,” revealed the Under- 21 boss, who is preparing for next month’s must-win European Championship qualifiers against Portugal and Lithuania.
