MIDDLESBROUGH Ladies have called on the support of fans this Sunday as they take on holders Arsenal Ladies at Billingham Synthonia in the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup (12pm).
Arsenal Ladies boast a squad full of internationals, including ten from England, four from Ireland, three from Scotland and two from Wales.
They are widely recognised as the best team in the country.
Boro Ladies boss Marrie Wieczorek is under no illusions about the difficulty the tie poses, but is confident her players can rise to the occasion.
“There is no pressure on us,”
she said. “All I will ask of the girls is that they go out there and play the type of football I know they are capable of.”
Admission is free to spectators and Marrie insists that anyone with an interest in football should not miss the opportunity to see the Gunners in action.
“Arsenal have won the Women’s FA Cup for the last three years on the trot and they are also the current European Cup holders,” said Wieczorek.
“They are by far the outstanding side in women’s football in this country, if not in Europe, and it is an honour to have the opportunity to face them on home turf.
“The girls will need all the backing they can get, so I hope fans turn up in their droves and support them all the way.”
