DANNY Wilson admits Hartlepool United’s latest trial by television has left him feeling deflated.

Weeks after Pools were warned off making an appeal against the red card shown to Sam Collins during the home loss to MK Dons, goalkeeper Arran Lee-Barrett was given a three-game ban following his actions in last weekeend’s FA Cup tie at Fleetwood.

Referee Clive Oliver admitted he missed Lee-Barrett swinging an elbow at Lee Hunt, which meant an FA three-game ban followed after they reviewed the match video.

He misses three games, starting with today’s home clash with Yeovil, which hands a recall for the first time this season to Jan Budtz, Wilson admitted after the game that his player was fortunate to escape with a yellow card, but said: “It has annoyed me greatly, I’m very miffed.

“The referee did not see the incident. We’ve been tried by television and that’s difficult to take. If anything, the Fleetwood striker should have been sent off.

“They should analyse his strike on Arran, because he elbowed him straight in the mouth.

“But nothing will happen with that, they’ve concentrated on Arran, which disappoints me greatly.’’ Budtz has not played since February 22, when a series of errors culminated in a late Northampton strike squirming from his grasp.

Wilson took him out of the firing line to restore his confidence and, with that process complete, he has no worries about putting him in today.

“Jan will play and I have got no qualms about that,” said Wilson.

“It is ironic actually because I was talking to Jan on Tuesday morning saying how well he has done and how his attitude has been fantastic, then this ban comes through for Arran.

“George Wood (goalkeeping coach) has been singing his praises all the time he has not been in the team.

“We could have let Jan go out on loan on numerous occasions but we held him back because we thought this might be a situation which developed.

“I am very confident he will take his chance because he is a very good goalkeeper.’’
