MICHAEL Carrick described the deadline day arrivals of Ben Doak and George Edmundson as a "bonus" for Middlesbrough.
Liverpool attacker Doak and Ipswich defender Edmundson joined on season-long loan deals last week, bringing to a close a hugely impressive summer window for Boro.
Doak is currently away on international duty with Scotland but will link up with his new teammates next week and Carrick thinks the the exciting teenager is going to go down a treat with fans.
As for Edmundson, Boro moved to sign the 27-year-old as they looked to ensure they aren't left short at the back with Dael Fry and Darragh Lenihan both still sidelined. Rav van den Berg has also been missing since the opening weekend of the season but Carrick expects the Dutch centre-half to be back after the international break.
Regardless, Boro believe Edmundson can be a useful addition on and off the pitch.

Carrick said: “They’re both probably a bit of a bonus really because you never do know what to expect in those last couple of days. It can be a little bit crazy. We were delighted to get both of them though.
"They’re obviously very different. Ben is a really sharp, quick and aggressive attacking winger or wide man who can cause a lot of problems for defences. We’re really excited to have him and really excited to see him. I’m sure the supporters will enjoy watching him.
"George, meanwhile, arrives with great experience. We like to have people in the dressing room that have sampled the experience and know what it feels like [to win promotion]. He obviously did that last season. The situation with the defenders, with Dael and Darragh being out for a little period of time, we just felt we needed to balance things off a bit."
