AMAD Diallo is attracting interest from overseas on the back of his impressive Sunderland loan spell, but former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand wants the forward to be given a chance at Old Trafford.

Diallo was one of the stand-out players in the Championship for the Black Cats and United boss Erik ten Hag is now set to have a close look at the 20-year-old in pre-season.

But if he decides the forward is still not ready to break into his team, United will not be short of offers.

Dutch champions Feyenoord, who failed with a bid for Amad back in 2021, are already said to be showing an interest, although no formal bid has yet been placed.

While Tony Mowbray would love Amad back at Sunderland next season, the head coach previously admitted that unless the Black Cats won promotion to the Premier League that was extremely unlikely, even though the youngster did set tongues wagging over the weekend when he responded with a 'handshake' emoji on Instagram to reports that a return could be a possibility.

Ex-Manchester United defender Ferdinand, however, believes Amad should get his chance at Old Trafford.

"He is an interesting one," said Ferdinand on his YouTube channel.

"He has got talent, there is no doubting that. You can see the talent he has got but you can see he wasn’t robust enough at the time.

"But that loan at Sunderland, he left that place a hero, an absolute god. He plays on the right hand side too, a problem position for us (United).

"I know Antony has come in and done well but he is someone you can look at and say can he add something a bit different. I would like to see him given another opportunity.

"There is a bit of unfinished business and I don’t know if he’s not good enough, not right for Man Utd or he is [good enough] because I haven’t seen enough."

Meanwhile, tickets for two Sunderland pre-season friendlies are now on sale.

Sunderland's squad will be split for the games against South Shields and Gateshead on Saturday, July 8.

The game against Julio Arca's Shields will kick-off at 12.30pm and the friendly against beaten FA Trophy finalists Gateshead at 4pm.
