THE Championship play-off final will take place on Saturday, May 27, the EFL have confirmed.

As things stand, the kick-off time is not yet known, with the EFL saying that will be confirmed in due course.

The League Two final will be held on Sunday, May 28 (1pm kick-off) and the League One final will take place on Monday, May 29 (3pm).

There had been suggestions earlier in the season that the Championship final would be on the Monday but the EFL have now confirmed it will be the first of the finals and will take place on the Saturday.

The date will be of interest to Middlesbrough fans, with Boro right at the heart of the promotion race. Michael Carrick's side are still hopeful of catching Sheffield United and winning automatic promotion but if they don't, they look firm favourites to at least secure a play-off spot.

Sunderland did look to be in contention but are now seven points adrift and their top six hopes look slim.

Newcastle United are also in the capital on the weekend of the play-off finals, with the Magpies facing Chelsea in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, May 28 (4.30pm kick-off).

The final games in the regular Championship season are on Monday, May 8, with Boro hosting Coventry City and Sunderland travelling to Preston.

The play-off semi-final dates will be confirmed closer to the time.
