MIDDLESBROUGH’S first team coach Leo Percovich will oversee first team duties on an interim basis following the sacking of manager Chris Wilder.
The 55-year-old was relieved of his duties this morning following a run of just two wins from 11 Championship games left them in the relegation zone.
Percovich initially arrived at the club in December 2013 as goalkeeping coach when Boro appointed Aitor Karanka at the helm. He spent just less than four years at the club following Karanka’s sacking and Boro’s relegation from the Premier League in 2017.
After a two-year spell back in Brazil with Fluminese, Percovich returned to the club as part of Jonathan Woodgate’s coaching staff in 2019. The Uruguayan has remained with the club during spells under Neil Warnock and most recently with Wilder.
It is the first time Percovich will handle first-team affairs at the club following the sacking of a manager and he will be in the dugout for Wednesday’s home game against Birmingham City. He will be assisted in his role by academy manager Craig Liddle, under-23’s coach Mark Tinkler and under- 18’s coach and former Boro midfielder Lee Cattermole.
