AFTER a week of uncertainty and speculation surrounding the future of Chris Wilder, the Middlesbrough boss has keen to relay the fears of a jittery fanbase with assurances of an uplift in form and results.

After the Boro boss quashed rumours that he will be heading to Bournemouth to take the vacant managerial post today, his attentions must not turn to a trip to Coventry City tomorrow where his side are in need of a win to lift the mood amongst the fan base.

Over 2,300 away tickets have been sold for the game at the CBS Arena.

Whether it’s to do with events on the field or behind the scenes, the manager admitted he’s not one to try and dish out false truths. “They will have their own opinions. I will never sway them. I’ll never try and spin them” he said.

“I think performances have been spot on. There are certain bits and pieces that we need to tighten ourselves up with. It’s not a wrecking ball to the project. It’s a build and we all understand that. It’s a big turnover of players.

“Maybe if I take a step back, we were possibly going to go through a bit of a period like this but reflecting on it, it’s stuff that we can definitely affect in the individual errors column certainly. That comes down to discipline, organisation, communication, attitude.”

Through various parts of the season, Boro’s performances have not reflected their results with just two wins from their opening ten games of the season to the frustration of the Boro faithful. But that in itself gives Wilder reason not to change much going into the latest run of games before the pause for the winter World Cup in Qatar.

He continued: “At the top of the pitch, it’s about showing the quality that I believe that we have to put teams to bed. Certainly, the bit in the middle as shown by the stats going round is pretty positive. My issue is that I’ve been brought up to win games of football. I’ve done that with every club in the past and I want to do it here as well.

“Getting that balance right of not taking a wrecking ball to it, not changing formation or system, getting him out of the team and ditching him and all of a sudden I don’t want you. There has got to be some level of consistency and thought to what we are doing through experience.

“I don’t think this is something is a massive issue but the longer it goes on and we don’t pick results up, as you’ve seen, the mood changes. The attitude changes towards us. As I’ve said all along, the shirt becomes a little bit heavier and confidence drifts. But it can easily be got back as well so we have got to look after the players.”

On social media and through various sections on the fanbase, there has been a voice of discontent in the view speculation surrounding a potential move away from the club for Wilder has crept back in following the saga back in April when he was red hot favourite to take over the vacant Burnley manager’s job following Sean Dyche’s sacking.

While it has been a source of disappointment that unfounded rumours have made their way into the ears and eyes of the club, Wilder appreciates the level of support he has received from the Boro faithful during his time in charge. He added: “From the supporters point of view, they have been great with me right the way through and that’s the disappointing thing when you see the nonsense that comes out over the last two weeks that ‘I want to go, I want to do this, I want to do that’. You hear about it and you have to get on with it and deal with it.

“This is a good group of players that we have inherited and we’ve added to. The support has been fabulous and we have to always get the results and the performances to enthuse the supporters. We have done in the past and there is no doubt in my mind that we will do going forward.”
