MIDDLESBROUGH have received a triple injury boost ahead of this weekend’s trip to Coventry City with Chuba Akpom, Darragh Lenihan and Zack Steffen all set to be involved.

All three have been in full training with the first-team squad over the international break after overcoming their own respective injury problems.

Akpom has been out since he scored both goals in a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United with knee injury whilst Lenihan has missed Boro’s last three games after limping off during the defeat to Watford with a foot problem.

Steffen made his return to the side before the international break keeping a clean sheet against Rotherham United and the American has since been working to get up to full match sharpness at Rockliffe.

Manager Chris Wilder said: “To lose two/three of your starters from that Sheffield United game has been quite a big dint for us.

“All been back on the grass and working this week so there is a decision to be made over the weekend. Zack getting minutes on the grass is huge. They are big players for us, all three of them.

“Chuba has become a big player for us. Something that has not been said to him before is ‘welcome back’ or ‘glad to have you back’ so maybe he’s not had that and there is a little smile on his face but he’s trained well so positive about him being involved.

“Zack has had a stop start first part of his career at Middlesbrough. Being out injured and getting himself back, playing against Rotherham. He’s a good couple of weeks of conditioning work to sharpen him up. Hopefully he does what we believe he can do and be the best goalkeeper in the division.”

Elsewhere, Sky Blues midfielder Callum O’Hare made a return to training this week after a hamstring tear but he will not be available for this weekend’s game at the CBS Arena.

Both sides are looking to climb away from the Championship relegation zone when they meet tomorrow afternoon.
