FEDERICO Fernandez has ended his four year stay with Newcastle United joining Spanish side Elche on a permanent deal.
The Argentinian, who joined the club in 2018 from Swansea City, made 89 appearances and scored two goals. He often played the role of deputy to Jamaal Lascelles as the club captain.
However, persistent injury problems saw his game time reduced to seven appearances in all competitions last season.
Following a series of additions of the summer, Fernandez slipped down the pecking order at the club and was allowed to seek a move elsewhere.
The 33-year-old becomes the fifth departure of transfer deadline day following in the footsteps of Martin Dubravka, Matty Longstaff, Kell Watts and Lucas De Bolle.
