CHELSEA winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is closing in a loan move away from Stamford Bridge with Newcastle United one of a number of clubs who are retaining an interest.

The 21-year-old has declared his desires to play regular first-team football to the Chelsea hierarchy after being omitted from the matchday squad against Tottenham Hotspur. He was also an unused subs against Everton on the opening day of the season.

Hudson-Odoi’s case for first-team football at Stamford Bridge could be further weakened by Chelsea’s pursuit of Everton winger Anthony Gordon, who is wanted for around £40 million. As a result, Chelsea are willing to let him go.

Hudson-Odoi’s availability has alerted club with Newcastle, Southampton and German giants Borussia Dortmund throwing their hat into the ring. Chelsea would not be prepared to losing Hudson-Odoi on a permanent basis but would be willing to let him leave on to play regular first-team football.

The Chelsea academy graduate has made 126 appearances for the Blues in his career and scored 16 goals.

After a stagnant month in the transfer market, Newcastle are keen to press on with their business with two weeks left of the window with particularly emphasis on bringing wingers or attackers to the club.

Newcastle’s desire for a winger or attacking midfielder has shown in their pursuits of Leeds United winger Jack Harrison and Bayern Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby but the Magpies were priced out of potential moves. A loan move for Hudson-Odoi would work as a cheaper option for the club.

Newcastle are also holding an interest in Hudson-Odoi’s team mate Conor Gallagher who is currently acting as fourth choice central midfielder in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

When asked about the availability of his fringe players in the squad, Tuchel said: “Nobody is for sale and everybody is for sale.

“It depends on what the player wants, how bad the player wants it, what we think and who is ready to pay a certain amount of money.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle are preparing a second bid for Watford forward Joao Pedro. An offer of around £17 million was rejected by the Hornets with manager Rob Edwards insisting the Brazilian is not for sale this summer.
