JORGEN Strand Larsen has once again relayed his frustrations at Groningen publicly over a move away from the club as the striker states the valuation that the club should be accepting from Middlesbrough.

Boro have an offer on the table for the 22-year-old Norwegian international but Groningen are determined to fend off competition for their prized asset and are currently outpricing potential suitors. Both Boro and Italian outfit Bologna have tabled offers for Larsen.

It’s understood Boro will not increase their offer and are prepared to walk away from a potential deal if Groningen are not willing to lower their demands for the striker while Larsen continues to be frustrated by Groningen’s reluctancy to sell as he looks to take what he describes as ‘new steps’ in his career.

Following Groningen’s 6-1 loss to Ajax earlier today, Larsen was asked by ESPN whether he felt the club should accept an offer of around ten million euros. His response was emphatic as he said: “Yes, to be honest.

“When I came to the club, there was a goal to get as much as possible out of me as possible but now there is really serious offers on the table. I think the club needs to handle the situation better but also for my career.”

Since Boro tabled their initial offer, there has been no further progress made in a potential deal with the ball very much in Groningen’s court.

Larsen has done everything short of submit a transfer request to the club as he harbours desires to climb to the very top of the game while the club’s sporting director Mark Jan Fledderus wants to tie him down to a new contract. When asked how close a potential move to Teesside is, Larsen continued: “Not that close.

“There has been some interest and there has been some clubs, Italian clubs. I think at this point I am a little bit disappointed over how the club has handled the situation.

“There are serious offers and if there was small offers, I wouldn’t be standing here being disappointed but there is serious offers on the table.

“I think for every guy who is 22 who wants to take a new step, it is disappointing to see that the club, Groningen, are just putting all the interest away and not being really open to anything.”

Boro have made recent progress in the transfer market with the recent acquisitions of striker Matthew Hoppe and midfielder Alex Mowatt while manager Chris Wilder has revealed he wants to keep striker Chuba Akpom for the forthcoming season following his brace against Sheffield United.

However, the additions of a couple more strikers are high on Wilder’s list with Larsen waiting for the green light from Groningen who is accusing his club of mishandling the situation.

In an honest interview, Larsen added: “I am not thinking so much about it. I am more about the respect to me from the club. They have to handle the situation with professionalism.

“From my side, it is not about me handing in a transfer request but to be honest, these clubs that have been on the table are a boys dream to take those step.

“I know what I have here. I have 90 minutes two times and I have an assist and a goal. I know what I can do in Groningen this year but sooner or later you need to take a step and I think.

“What’s most important for me now is that the club are handling the situation with respect for me and that has not been done yet.”

The six foot four inch Larsen scored 14 goals in 32 appearances for Groningen last season and is already off the mark for this season scoring in their 2-2 draw with FC Volendam on the opening day of the Eredivisie campaign.

Boro are also in the market for a left-side defender with the club pushing for a move for Hull City defender Jacob Greaves. They had a second offer for the 21-year-old centre-half rejected as the Tigers look to tie him down to a new contract.

Meanwhile, Wilder’s side battled to their way to a 2-2 with Sheffield United at the Riverside Stadium yesterday as they came from behind twice to level the game through Akpom’s goals.
