ON the eve of their trip to Northampton in League Two, Hartlepool United have bolstered their attacking ranks with the addition of Wes McDonald.

The 25-year-old, who is predominantly a winger or attacking midfielder, joins permanently after leaving League One side Morecambe recently. He becomes Pools’ 15th signing of the summer.

McDonald came through the academy ranks at Birmingham City before going on to have spells with Nuneaton, Solihull Moors and Yeovil before a move to Walsall, where he found regular game time.

He made 81 appearances and scored ten goals before a switch to the Shrimps following their promotion to League One. However, after jut 23 appearances without scoring, McDonald was given the green light to leave the club this summer.

He said: "I am a direct, attacking player that wants to get the fans excited and off their seats. I have had some good conversations with the Gaffer and I knew straight away, Hartlepool was where I wanted to be".

McDonald will not be available for tomorrow's trip to Northampton.

After two defeats from three games to begin the season, Pools face a tough trip on the road tomorrow afternoon against the Cobblers where they will be looking for their first win of the season.

Manager Paul Hartley told BBC Radio Tees Sport: "You've got pick up points on your travels and as I've said before, you have got to make sure that for your home form, you win games.

"Every game is tough. We're not stupid and we're not naive. We know what is in front of us but we want to try and get a good result and then we have got back-to-back home games which will be really important."
