HARTLEPOOL United manager Paul Hartley has revealed that the club are closing in on the signing of a new forward.

Pools are brought 14 new players into the club this summer as part of Hartley's overhaul following his appointment back in June.

Even after a busy summer in the transfer market, Hartley has been keen to add further strikers to his squad. After three games without a goal to start the season, the Pools boss is hopeful that their potential new signing can add much needed firepower.

"I think we are close to one or two at the top end of the pitch so hopefully we can get that done" Hartley told BBC Radio Tees Sport

"It's really important that we are more of a threat at the top end of the pitch. We felt that we've created some chances but not enough. But then you need to take your chances and be ruthless at the top end."

After two defeats from three games to begin the season, Pools face a tough trip on the road tomorrow afternoon against League Two promotion contenders Northampton.

Hartley continued: "You've got pick up points on your travels and as I've said before, you have got to make sure that for your home form, you win games.

"Every game is tough. We're not stupid and we're not naive. We know what is in front of us but we want to try and get a good result and then we have got back-to-back home games which will be really important."
