Middlesbrough take on Barnsley in the first round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening (August 10).

Here are all the details ahead of the game…

WHERE IS THE GAME TAKING PLACE?

With Boro having come out of the hat first in the first-round draw, Wednesday’s game will be staged at the Riverside.

The Teessiders have won their last two home games against Barnsley, although the last time the Tykes visited the Riverside in the League Cup in September 2020, they claimed a 2-0 away win thanks to goals from Patrick Schmidt and Jordan Williams.

WHAT TIME IS KICK-OFF?

Wednesday night’s game kicks off at 7.45pm.

ARE TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE?

Tickets are still on sale for Wednesday’s game via the ticketing section of Middlesbrough’s official website.

Tickets are currently being sold in the West Stand, with prices set at £18 for adults, £12 for Over-65s and £6 for Under-18s.

IS THE GAME BEING SHOWN ON TV OR SCREENED LIVE?

There is no domestic television coverage of the game with Barnsley, with the match not having been selected by Sky.

As Wednesday’s game is a Carabao Cup game, there is no streaming service for domestic or overseas viewers. Audio-only passes are available on Middlesbrough’s website.

Scott Wilson will be at the game for The Northern Echo, and will be providing live updates on a blog on The Northern Echo website, as well as a report, ratings and reaction after the final whistle.

WHAT IS MIDDLESBROUGH’S LIKELY LINE-UP?

Darragh Lenihan is suspended for Wednesday’s game following his dismissal in the closing stages of Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at QPR.

Chris Wilder is set to make a number of changes for the game, with summer signing Liam Roberts expected to replace Zack Steffen in goal.

Tommy Smith and Dael Fry are set to start in the backline, with Caolon Boyd-Munce and Hayden Hackney in contention to play in midfield.

Chuba Akpom could well start in attack after coming off the bench at the weekend, but Wilder could opt to hand a debut to youngster Sonny Finch.

HOW ARE BARNSLEY SHAPING UP?

Barnsley have had a mixed start to the current campaign following their relegation to League One last season, losing to Plymouth Argyle on the opening day before beating Cheltenham Town last weekend.

Matty Wolfe missed Saturday’s win over Cheltenham after suffering a knock in training last week, and remains a doubt for Wednesday’s game.

Michael Helik is expected to be unavailable because of a thigh injury, but attackers Devante Cole and Aiden Marsh will be hoping for a starting spot after coming off the bench at the weekend.
