HOW did Hartlepool United players rate in their 1-1 pre-season draw with Sunderland?
Digital Sports Writer Matty Jones was watching the game at the Suit Direct Stadium...
POOLS XI:
6 Killip – Did well to keep the ball out of the net during sustained pressure in the first half. Only beaten by a penalty.
7 Tumilty – Got up and down the right hand side but was forced to do a lot of defending. Plenty of crosses in from the left he didn’t defend.
6 Murray – Looked strong at the back for most of the first half but unfortunately gave the penalty away.
7 Lacey – Had one or two shaky moments but largely did well to keep Sunderland out and put his body on the line.
6 Ferguson – A quiet game by his standards but he was forced to do plenty of defending on the right hand side.
6 Featherstone – Not involved in much build up play and instead had to do a lot more running than usual.
5 Cooke – Got caught on the ball a lot and was at fault for a short back pass that led to the goal.
6 Crawford – Was forced to do a lot of chasing in the advanced midfield role and wasn’t on the ball as much as he would have liked.
7 Hastie – Did really well to beat his man and set up the first goal. A lot of Pools threat was coming through him.
8 Grey – A hard working display from the youngster who started the move for the first goal, worked back and provided plenty of threat.
5 Hamilton – Offered little presence in attack and won only a few of his aerial duals.
Subs:
6 Letheran 45’ – Had little to do in the second half but kept things tight enough and communicated well.
6 Menayese 45’ – A quiet half for the centre half but kept things ticking over at the back.
6 Shelton 45’ – One or two sloppy passes given away to start with but grew into the game as the hal went on.
7 Paterson 45’ – Plenty of good energy going forward. Could end up pushing Ferguson for his place.
7 Niang 45’ – Despite playing out of position, he looks very good in defence and is not afraid of a tackle.
7 Ndjoli 45’ – Energetic and bright, he looked to make things happen in the final third.
6 Umerah 45’ – Put himself about against the imperious Batth and should have scored in the box.
