HARTLEPOOL United have added to their defensive ranks as Rollin Menayese joins on a season long loan deal from Walsall.

The 24-year-old centre-half adds defensive cover to Paul Hartley’s squad after the departures of Timi Odusina, Neill Byrne and Gary Liddle this summer.

Menayese, who has played for Wales youth side at Under-17 level, made 39 appearances for the Sadlers last season. He came up against Pools at the beginning of the season and was on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat at the Suit Direct Stadium.

He has previously spent time with Bristol Rovers, Swindon Town, Aldershot, Mansfield and Grimsby Town.

Manager Hartley said: "He is a still a young lad but he has plenty of experience in this league. He loves to defend but has great athleticism. He brings a strength and presence to our backline. We’re excited to work with Rollin as we continue to prepare for the new season."

Menayese's transfer will be subject to EFL clearance and he will take up the number 23 shirt this season.

He is expected to feature for Pools in their next pre-season friendly when they come up against Blackburn Rovers on home soil.
